Blowing Up Their Spot

If you haven’t yet heard (though I am not sure how you could have missed it), Iran released pictures of a missile test they just conducted. The image they released was plastered all over newspapers world wide and showed 4 missiles taking flight simultaneously. The picture came from Agence France-Presse who said that they got the picture from Sepah News, they happen to be the media wing (or maybe propaganda wing) of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. There is something a bit menacing about the image of four missiles heading skyward in a successful test… That is until you study the picture a bit more.

It turns out that the missile, 3rd from the left was Photoshopped in. the dust cloud under the missile comes from the right hand side, the missile it self is identical to the one on the left hand side (the NY Times had a little fun with Photoshop themselves highlighting this). Now the question being raised is: Who is responsible for this? Read more »

WTF Of the Day- Custom Creatures

Have you ever wanted a taxidermed animal in your home or office, but the usual rabbit/bird/squirrel/armadillo just aren’t quite what you are looking for? Well then just head on over to Custom Creatures.

At Custom Creatures Sarina Brewer is whipping up some nice taxidermy pieces of both the ordinary variety and the well, let’s go with surreal. Like the winged kitten or the Siamese twin squirrels or go straight for the mythological with the Griffin or Chupacabra.

Sarina also has a fine collection of “Cryptic Curios” and “Pickled Pets,” well, finest collection I have seen at least. Even if you aren’t in the market for one of these it is a neat site to check out.

Ooooh, look at that

“The Visual Effects Society is the entertainment industry’s only organization representing the full breadth of visual effects practitioners including artists, technologists, model makers, educators, studio leaders, supervisors, PR/marketing specialists and producers in all areas of entertainment from film, television and commercials to music videos and games.”

Well, at least according to their website, but with over 1,300 members I am guessing they know a little something about effects. Well, anyway, they just released their top 50 choices of Special Effects films available in an easy to download PDF format here.

While movies like The Matrix, Star Wars and Mary Poppins made the cut, surprisingly neither F/X nor F/X 2 did, go figure.
