If you haven’t yet heard (though I am not sure how you could have missed it), Iran released pictures of a missile test they just conducted. The image they released was plastered all over newspapers world wide and showed 4 missiles taking flight simultaneously. The picture came from Agence France-Presse who said that they got the picture from Sepah News, they happen to be the media wing (or maybe propaganda wing) of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. There is something a bit menacing about the image of four missiles heading skyward in a successful test… That is until you study the picture a bit more.
It turns out that the missile, 3rd from the left was Photoshopped in. the dust cloud under the missile comes from the right hand side, the missile it self is identical to the one on the left hand side (the NY Times had a little fun with Photoshop themselves highlighting this). Now the question being raised is: Who is responsible for this? Read more »

While Josh has kept himself busy posting up and down on the site I have had a more leisurely past few days, relaxing and enjoying the break from everything afforded by Thanksgiving. But now I am back and ready to get posting again.
First up today we have a little something for all of you creative gadget type folks out there. The Discovery channel is working on a show based on Rube Goldberg type inventions, setting up a team of artists, scientists, engineers, architects, designers and other like-minded folks to create Rube Goldberg-like contraptions to do “impossible challenges.” They are looking for folks between 25 and 3.
If you are interested in more information check out the casting call posted on the Make magazine forums.

I’m a complete freak for organizational tools. I don’t subscribe to a particular system (such as Franklin Covey, which my friend Rick has mastered), but I do give a lot of thought to ease of use and effectiveness, especially as compared to slickness and coolness.
So I was a little too excited at running across D.I.Y. Templates, which features a directory of To Do List templates. They range from the quirky (the note card template seen here) to more complicated layouts that include daily or weekly timelines and checkboxes. There are forms for work stuff, finances, money, blah and even blahblahblahblah (spoken quickly).

Ever have trouble finding a parking space? Well, this Friday it is about to get worse, at least for the day.
Friday, September 21st is Park(ing) Day.
Back in 2005 an art collective called Rebar took over a metered parking space and turned it into a mini park for the day . They got such a positive response from the project that they have turned it into an international event, in cities across the US and around the world (which, I guess is a bit redundant since I already said it was an International event…).
Anyway, the basic idea is to find an empty metered spot and set up your park, just remember to feed your meter, as you are “leasing” the spot on an hourly rate (possibly one of the best deals in the city). Read more »

It sounds like it could be the catch phrase for a Scion or the new Ikea add, but no, it is a line I picked-up (and rephrased) from this NY Times Article about “hacking” Ikea furniture. Re-purposing or redesigning Ikea pieces to fit better with your lifestyle or personal aesthetic.
This article probably appeals to me because I love DIY projects. This past weekend, around 1am Saturday night I re-wired an overhead light that had been sitting around… My desk is constructed out of plywood and plumbing supplies and last summer I built a waterfall in my backyard with some PVC piping, an old futon frame, a claw foot bathtub and a water pump. So, yeah, the whole DIY thing is appealing to me.
Anyway, the article is essentially a 3 page (online) fluff piece, Read more »
