Let be honest, though. This lady is attractive, speaks English in full sentences, can articulate positions that make sense, and is attractive and a woman, and an attractive woman (unlike that Harridan who almost got the Dem nomination…Hil-something).

I think McCain has seriously debilitated himself with this choice. I think it’s a choice that shows he’s not very serious about the job he’s applying for.
This is a VP candidate who is not on record saying anything with regard to anything international except for a couple of remarks about her son being deployed to Iraq. When the Democrats attack her lack of readiness to be president the Republicans are going to trot out the fact that she’s actually got more executive experience than McCain, Obama and Biden combined, having been governor for (almost) two years and mayor (of Wasilla, AK, pop. 6000) before that. But executive experience is not, in itself, a useful criterion for readiness to be president. It helps having thought about national and international issues at least once in your life.
McCain met her once (ONCE!!) before last week. Was she vetted? Apparently not given the ethics scandal she’s being investigated for in Alaska. Google ‘Palin Troopergate’ if you don’t know what I’m talking about.
This choice seems clear to me that McCain is thinking about Election Day and not January 20 and beyond. Is she McCain’s Harriet Miers? Will he have to dump her in a week or two and announce Mitt Romney as his new running mate?
Granted on the issues she is nearly in lockstep with McCain and she’ll help bring the base around. The pro-lifers are going to love the fact that she has a child with Down’s Syndrome.
Now I believe that people don’t really vote for the VP when they go to the polls. People vote the top of the ticket. Have you ever heard someone change their mind based on a VP selection? But this is a case that I think could genuinely hurt McCain if people really start thinking about the very real possibility that she would have to assume the office at some point in the next four years. 3 of the last 12 presidents have died or resigned. McCain is not a young man and he’s in questionable health. This is a serious issue.

I think all of the points you brought up, Jason, are incredibly important. I have serious concern about McCain’s judgment given this choice. I can’t believe he met her only once. ONCE! And I read a quote where she mentioned that she hadn’t really thought about Iraq… which makes me question her as a mother considering McCain wants to keep us in Iraq for another century.
I also think it’s a slap in the face to anyone who supported Hillary Clinton (assuming this is the main reason McCain chose Palin – because of her well-used ovaries). This woman is no Hillary Clinton.
Harriet Miers meets Dan Quayle!

Also – I think her older daughters look like they could be Kardashians.

Do you mean Kardashian as in Kim Kardashian of ‘Entertainment Tonight’ and sex tape fame? Or Cardassians of the ‘Star Trek’ universe?

I was totally sober when I posted this, but had been intoxicated after finally watching Obama’s speech. I think Jason and Amy are wrong wrong wrong. This lady took on Alaska’s corrupt repub political machine and, damnit, she looks and sounds good on TV. She’s female! Her husband is a commercial fisherman! This is an amazingly good selection. The kind of people seriously considering McCain are too stupid to care about the logic of your points.
