Nobama

From the Louisville Courier-Journal is this story about the Nobama campaign:

Nobama

My personal favorite is the Nobama 2009 World Appeasement Tour. Sadly, it would appear such a tour will actually happen. Iran is definitely counting on it.

  1. Eric, only a jackass like you would think that electing a president who can govern peacefully is a bad thing. If you’d like to see the reinstitution of the draft in your lifetime, you just go ahead and vote for McCain.

Our military is currently strained to the breaking point with our forces being spread thin in Iraq and Afghanistan. When McCain finally gets down to “surging” into Iran, it will break the back of our military…where do you think he will turn to replenish the roles? And yes, he may have a slightly larger coalition force than the garbage Bush was able to get for the bullshit Iraq occupation, but pretty soon it’ll be guys like you and I that are suddenly getting our numbers called.

Now I love this country, but I will not join in a fight that I don’t support, and invading Iran, a self-proclaimed nuclear nation, would be absolute lunacy. If you dismiss the idea of diplomacy then there’s no hope for peace in our lifetime, and our future generations have to look forward to a greater chance of nuclear holocaust.

I consider myself a pretty rational person, and have listened to McCain’s ideas, and frankly, Obama is the MUCH less crazy of the two. McCain can’t even keep an opinion for a day or two. It’ll be like Reagan again, and I’m not talking about “take down that wall” Reagan. I’m talking about “oops, thought that button was the alarm clock…wow…look at that pretty mushroom cloud” Reagan. The last thing we need is a president who can’t remember from day to day which countries we’re at war with.

  2. Scott,

Thanks for leading off by calling me a jackass. I had forgotten that was in fact what I am. I guess I could never be worthy enough to cast a ballot for Obama then, with all of his change, and good looks, and nice basketball shooting abilities.

A couple things about my post. One, I never said anything about voting for or electing McCain. Rather, my post was about the ground swell of opposition against Obama. See the thing is, a good portion of this country doesn’t like President Change. They don’t like him for a number of reasons. One reason is because of his ridiculous statement during the primaries that he would meet with any world leader without preconditions. The idea that we’d send the President of the United States to a place like Iran to have a chat with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, without preconditions, is ridiculous.

This rewards Iran for bad behavior. Why would you stop enriching uranium now when you think the next President of the United States is going to stop by for a chat? You haven’t had a President visit your country in at least 30 years, and it is only when you do some stuff really heinous (fund terrorists, support incursions to attack US troops, enrich uranium, test fire missiles, threaten to wipe Israel off the face of planet) that you get President Good Looks over to talk to you.

Back when I was in Jackass School, earning my Bachelor in the Art of Jackassing (with a minor in Dumbass Sciences), I took a course in International Relations. I know, I know, completely go against the required curriculum of underwater basket weaving and stupid stunts to impress your friends, but I was on the accelerated program.

Funny thing happened in this class. I realized I fell into the Positivist school of thought. Said another way, I’m what you call a realist. I realize Iran is build up their military might to greater influence their power in the Middle East. Everything that Ahmadinejad says and does is to that end.

President Hoops doesn’t get it. If you head over there on Air Force One, you’ve just sent the most powerful message in the world that Iran has arrived. Ahmadinejad will claim it as a victory that he can command an audience with our President because of the military power and might he now commands. Bad news if you ask me. No good can come of that.

On the other hand we have the school of thought you seem to fall into, which I infer based upon your apparent support for Obama’s foreign policy: post-positivist. You think we can’t accurately gauge a states interest and much of the world’s fault today lies in the historical way in which international relations has been conducted. Fair enough, post-positivists have definitely had their day in the sun (re: establishment of the UN). But I don’t think this is the way forward with a state like Iran. Right now, we’ve let the post-positivists have their way with the Iranian nuclear negotiations. All this has done is led to further enrichment, more threats to Israel, more attacks and US troops in Iraq, a more emboldened Hezbollah and now a demonstration of force vis-à-vis missile tests. Hmmmmm…..doesn’t seem to me, you know the Jackass, that the post-positivists approach is working.

Has McCain said some stupid things? Absolutely! I cringe when I here some of the things he’s said. But what he has not said is that he is going to 100% attack Iran. He is merely saying the option is on the table if Iran doesn’t stop nuclear enrichment, stop attacking US troops, stop funding Hezbollah, stop threatening Israel and refuses to negotiate with our allies.

But rather than have this debate why don’t you continue to call me a jackass. That’ll move this nation forward.
