Going Overboard With Bacon
So, you might think this is going to be a post about boats and bacon or seafaring bacon or even bacon life preservers or something, but no, when I say going overboard, I mean too much bacon.
New York Magazine has a recipe for a Bacon-Infused Old Fashion from PDT. Part one of the recipe is making Bacon Bourbon.
Here is where I am torn: Bacon and Bourbon are two flavors that go really well together. I know this from mixing up some Bourbon Maple Syrup and pouring it all over my waffles and bacon. Great flavors. The richness of the bourbon complements the smokiness of the bacon really nicely.
So, I am willing to go that far, bourbon and bacon make a nice combo, but this isn’t strips of bacon slathered in bourbon. This is, rather, bourbon infused with bacon (or, more precisely, bacon fat).
Honestly I am not sure how I feel about the idea of drinking bacon. Then again, I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about bacon chocolate until I tried it and it was fantastic. Who knows…I might have to give this one a shot at some point.

There can never be too much bacon. I’ve begun taking bacon suppositories, though I hear I may be able to inject it soon, which would enhance absorption.

Bacon fat is used in all kinds of cooking. Why not drink it? Just because it’s a meat product? Think of all the liquid meat protein we eat anyway, like Milk. Come to think of it, can we combine liquid bacon with pig milk? Is there such a thing as pig milk?

However, the bacon fat is strained out of the alcohol before the cocktail is made. More precisely, you’re drinking the flavors of the bacon fat, not the fat itself. It gives the bourbon a nice smoky profile, bringing it closer to a whiskey, I’ve found.
