Well You Know, We All Want To Change The World

That seemed like an obvious way to go with titling the post since we’re talking about a revolution: Revolution Tea that is… Okay, I know, that was bad, I’ll try and cut down on the cheese factor. Moving right along.

This isn’t my first time writing about tea. I am, what I would consider, a pretty big tea fan. Sitting at my desk at work I go through about 4 cups of tea a day. You might think it is my body craving caffeine that I could get from one or two cups of coffee, but for one I don’t drink coffee; never have, I just think it is bitter. And another point, a lot of the tea I drink is either low in caffeine or herbal, without caffeine. In fact, for the longest time I avoided black teas. Like coffee I thought they were just too bitter and didn’t really have enough flavor to back up all the bitterness.

During the past week and a half I have been trying out some new teas I discovered. Revolution Tea is a small tea company (well, in comparison to say Lipton or Celestial Seasonings at least) located in Arizona. They are producing full-leaf tea in high quality infuser bags instead of your typical ground-up tea in a paper bags. Their packaging is all simple and clean, with a modern feel and design. They have your typical boxes with the tea stored inside a plastic box inside to keep out moisture, travel tins with 6 tea bags, tea tins for larger bags (for brewing pots of tea) and single serving packages; small cardboard boxes with their unique infuser tea bag inside.

Inside each of the infuser tea bags you can actually sea the full-leaf of the tea. I have had other bagged full-leaf tea and I have found that you usually get smaller leaves, or leaves broken down to work inside the tea bags. With Revolutions infuser bags they are packaging full tea leaves (or at least the fullest I have seen in a tea bag) as well as the other ingredients, the bags leave enough room for the leaves to expand and full infuse into your hot water. Revolution probably has one of the best presentations I have seen, not just with their infuser bags, but all of their packaging. Now, hiring a great designer is the easy part as far as I am concerned. All the great packaging in the world can’t cover up a bad product, fortunately the tea itself is pretty incredible.

I’ve had a chance to sample the Sweet Ginger Peach Tea (black tea), White Pear Tea (white tea), English Breakfast Tea (black tea), Tropical Green Tea, Citrus Spice Herbal Tea and the Earl Grey Lavender Tea (black tea). When I got the teas, I admit, I was a little disappointed that three of them were black teas. At first I stuck with the Tropical Green, Citrus Spice and White Pear. All of them have incredible flavor. They combine a mix of great tea with subtle flavor combinations, not too overwhelming, and produce a great tasting cup of tea. My one complaint is that the spice is the dominate flavor in the Citrus Spice and it could either be cut back a bit or the citrus flavor could be upped, though the flavor combination does make an incredible iced tea, especially for early fall.

Once I finally got over my hesitation with the black teas I brewed up a mug of the English Breakfast. This is what black tea should taste like. The bitterness I associate with so many black teas was missing, replaced by the taste of the tea itself (shockingly the tea tastes exactly like it smells). It is a fantastic cup of tea. The Sweet Ginger Peach Tea, like the Citrus Spice, makes an excellent ice tea. Revolution has really made me change my mind about the way I feel about black tea.

If you see Revolution Tea and you like tea, I’d highly recommend picking some up (you can check where it is sold in your state on their website), this is just really great tea. I’d write more, but I kind of feel like I have fawned enough over them, I don’t want it to seem insincere, so I am just going to stop now. But really, it is just great tea.
