The Incredible Edible…

Today is World Egg Day.
Bet you didn’t know that, did you?
Apparently, every year on the second Friday of October it is World Egg Day. What exactly does it mean that it is World Egg day? Well, you should probably be eating eggs or something I would guess, but beyond that details are kind of sketchy.
The American Egg Board (yes, there is an American Egg Board) doesn’t even mention it on its website (at least not that I found), though it does have a whole bunch of facts about eggs, probably more then you ever wanted to know about them in fact (it also refers to eggs as “Nature’s Miracle Food”).
The International Egg Commission (how could I make all of this up?) says this about World Egg Day: “World Egg Day is a unique day when countries around the world celebrate eggs and promote egg consumption. Below are some examples of the creative campaigns that took place on World Egg Day 2006.” Apparently nothing took place back then because that was where the page ended. And this year is looking to be equally exciting. On the other hand, if you are in the Egg Industry (or click on the link on IEC’s page claiming you are) you’ll have lots of handy tools informing you on how to have specials and promotions on your eggs, including handy tips for radio commercials and the likes.
While it is nice to have all these random “special” days and what not, if no one notices or cares, especially within the industry, maybe we don’t need to have those days. Anyway, in honor of World Egg Day for breakfast I had a tasty sandwich for breakfast of Eggs, Broccoli, Mushroom and Swiss on toasted rye. Definitely a nice way to kick off Friday morning.
