So, I was trying to keep the posts this week to a minimum. It being a holiday week, I figure a bunch of folks are just phoning it in, but with so many things just jumping out at me, some of these just write themselves.

This past weekend Reverend Billy, from the Church of Stop Shopping was arrested at the Critical Mass bike ride that ended at Union Square…

Wait for it…

The police were writing a number of the bikers tickets for gathering without a permit…

Wait for it…

Under the new New York Parade laws, penned by the police and enforced at their discretion, any group or gathering of more than 50 people requires a permit or can be considered criminal…

Wait for it…

Across the street from the Critical Mass ride (at the Best Buy mobile store? Virgin MegaStore? Circuit City? Is there a AT&T store around there?) over a hundred people had gathered, lining up outside the store to purchase the new Apple iPhone, and they of course were left alone…

NOW:

Reverend Billy was arrested for reading the First Amendment, you know, the one that guarantees freedom of speech and guarantees the rights of all Americans to assemble peacably.

I don’t even have the words for this. The claim was that this reading constituted harassment of a public official.

*I was always a fan of Captain Lou Albano, so when I saw the Lieutenant’s name I couldn’t resist the photo
