Things that make you go hmmmm

I read a bunch of different blogs. Some are design blogs, others are home blogs, some food blogs, some tech blogs. Every now and then I will come across an item that just makes me ask “What the fuck?”

It isn’t so much that I am surprised by the concept, everyone has had an idea that they thought was great and then, once they sobered up, they realized it was an awful idea. Well, after the jump I have found some products that fall into this category, except that these folks never sobered up, they also somehow managed to get their financiers so wasted that they didn’t realize what they were signing in for until it was too late.

Have you ever been sitting at your desk for long periods of time and your butt has just started to burn up? Just gotten so uncomfortably warm that you have found yourself in need of an air conditioner for your bottom? No? Well, apparently this is a problem in Japan. Fortunately the folks at Thanko have the solution with the USB Butt Cooler. Okay, from the pictures I admit, it looks more like the problem is an overly warm seat then an overheating bottom, but still who really needs this? The link to Thanko’s product page for this is here, however my Japanese is a little rusty so I didn’t want to post that as the primary link.

Next up another product for Japan. Is it me, or does it feel like Japan has taken inventing to the next level? What we have here is a simple quarter vending machine that sells crap. Yes, I know what you are thinking, they all sell crap- well this one literally does. Fake poop, with little faces on them. Apparently poop is lucky in Japan and therefore a bit item for the machines. I’d like to see how well a machine like this would fare in my supermarket, though oddly I think it would end up selling out pretty quickly. Anyway, what is also interesting is the route to Japan: the website is in Spanish and translated to both Japanese (I think) and English (not fantastically, but better then I could have done at translating my writing to Spanish).

Last up for today we have the Gold Man, a German (I think) made attachment for your toilet. This device is intended to make it easier to pee into the toilet with out getting your pee everywhere. Also, alternativel, if you are puking, now you no longer need to stick your face so close to that cool refreshing porcelain. Of course after you have finished using this you have a large dirty piece of plastic that needs to be washed and properly cleaned, oh right, and stored, not like it is a small thing. Though hey, it’s got to be better then the alternative of lifting up the seat right? Or not.
