Mouth Watering Wednesday

Apparently it has become a food day around here, which works out just fine by me as I love to cook, eat and look at pictures of food. And on that last note, Time Magazine currently has a good Photo Essay called “What Makes Us Eat More” and a great Photo Essay up called “What the World Eats.”
“What Makes Us Eat More” examines some of the outside influences that cause us to keep eating. Be forewarned, although the information here isn’t really that new and what it is saying shouldn’t really be news to any of us, the pictures are a bit mouth watering. They should warn you that this article is one of the things that makes you eat more. Also, they should have paired with this photo essay a note on Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Then We Think, which is not only a great title, but also a great book by Brian Wansink, PhD. Dr. Wansink isn’t publishing a diet book, but rather a book that helps us to become aware of the pitfalls we encounter everyday related to food.
The photo essay “What the World Eats” presents a beautiful portrait of a week’s worth of food for different families from around the world and is from the book Hungry Planet. The only thing I felt that was missing from this photo essay were the recipes mentioned (and yes, I am aware, if they were there it wouldn’t be a “photo essay,” now would it?). The article offers a great and fascinating look at just some of what is in the book. I think I am now going to have to rush out to buy it.
Both of these photo essays are part of a larger section of Time Magazine’s site that they have called “The Science of Appetite.” Some interesting stuff, worth checking out.
