Doggy Bag, Please

Replate logoAre you ever hesitant to take your leftovers home? I know I am. I know they will most likely sit in the fridge for a week (or in some cases longer) before I start to question the smells eminating from the back of the fridge and decide it is time to clean it all out and start fresh.

Well now there is another option: Replate. Replate is a movement that you may have already, unwittingly, taken part in. To replate, as defined on the site is “to place unwanted leftovers…on top of the nearest trash can so they don’t go to waste.” It is an idea/movement I have been taking part in for years. Sometimes I even go a step further and steal a fork from the restaurant (I didn’t say that) to drop in the bag so that someone who finds the food will have something to eat it with.

The idea behind Replate is to push this concept, to make sure people are aware of this movement and encourage people to take part in it. Replate has posters to download and put up; they’ll even send you Replate stickers. Though it all may seem like a joke, it is kind of a noble task when you take into account that there are a lot of people out there who are not getting as much food as they need. While Replate does not push this as their direct mission, every little bit helps. It seems like a pretty good grass roots movement that anyone can get behind and support.
