Modern Living
Today, I stumbled upon the essays of Tina Blue.
Blue, a lecturer in English at Kansas University, writes plainly and pointedly about the plight of the average American.
In her writing, you’ll find articulated what many of us notice when we sometimes achieve a moment of clarity and find ourselves living a modern existence frighteningly abstracted from our true material and spiritual needs.
Blue’s analysis is just what I had in mind when I bought this silly domain name back in the dot com heyday.
I am writing to see if Blue would consider bringing her commentary to AmericanMadness.
Regardless, I want to point our readers (such as they are!) to two of her articles and I encourage you to check out the rest, as I plan to:
America’s Sleep Deficit
“Americans seem to be prejudiced against sleep. Actually, we seem to be prejudiced against rest and relaxation of any sort. Even our leisure time ends up looking more like hard work than like rest.”
Slow Down–You’re Moving Too Fast!
“We would notice how awful we feel and how little fun we’re having, except that we don’t really have the time or energy to notice much of anything.”
